Southwest Portland is a region of Portland south of downtown (some say downtown is SW, not NW Portland), west of Willamette River, east of Beaverton and Tigard, and north of Lake Oswego. SW Portland is home to countless families and children because it is a safe and quiet place to live with great parks and good schools. It is also an easy commute to downtown Portland or Beaverton without having to fight the traffic on highway 26. Lewis & Clark College and OHSU are also located in Southwest Portland just south of the downtown boundary where Portland State University is located. Other notable areas include the zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, Washington Park, Japanese Garden, Tryon Creek State Park, and International Rose Test Garden, which is a famous place which gives Portland the name, the City of Roses. Despite the seeming quiet and serene nature of SW Portland, most SW Portlanders easily travel to downtown and SE Portland where they enjoy a plenty of entertainment. While Northwest Portland may not have much options north and west of the region, Southwest Portland is completely surrounded by downtown, SE Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Lake Oswego. Southwest Portlanders can also easily cross the bridge to the East side through Ross Island Bridge and Sellwood Bridge. It’s pretty much in the center of it all.
